Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) is confident that all political parties will submit their spending policies on time today, ensuring a smooth review process by the committee for any observations. Regarding the constitutional referendum debate, 40 individuals have registered, with Somchai and Aitim expressing their intention to represent the side supporting the constitutional amendment.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the ECT, emphasized the requirement for political parties to submit their campaign policies for review by the ECT. He stated that today marks the deadline for submissions, and he expects all parties to comply. The review process is anticipated to be completed promptly, as the committee will work based on verified information from the ECT's secretariat. The focus will be on providing observations, particularly on policies that may lack the three legal requirements: the required budget and source of funding, the cost-effectiveness and benefits of the policy, and the impact and risks of the policy. The committee is tasked with providing feedback on each condition rather than approving projects.
Mr. Saeng also addressed the registration for the upcoming referendum debate organized by the Election Commission on January 25th. The registration has seen 40 participants, surpassing expectations, with over 30 supporting constitutional amendments and around 10 opposing them. After registration closes, meetings will be held to select two representatives from each side to engage in the debate, which will be broadcast for approximately one hour.
According to the reporter, some of the notable registrants include Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn and Mr. Parit Wacharasindhu, who have shown interest in representing the pro-amendment perspective.
