Bangkok: Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission reveals details regarding the petition to dissolve the People's Power Party (PPC) due to leaked membership information. Mr. Kriengkrai Pandokmai, the Deputy Secretary-General, provided insights into the ongoing investigation, which involves three petitioners and is currently under review at the Election Commission (EC) office before being sent to the fact-finding committee.
According to Thai News Agency, the petitions include associated matters such as the Spectre C and Laser ID cases, both of which are being scrutinized by the commission. Mr. Kriengkrai noted that the petitioner filed under Section 92, which allows for the dissolution of a political party if offenses like acts against the democratic system or using the party for illicit gain are proven.
Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, underscored that while serious charges are often filed first, the review process prioritizes facts and legal compliance over public sentiment. He reiterated that dissolution can only occur if an offense is established at the organizational level.
Mr. Saeng emphasized fairness in the EC's approach, stating that complaints against political parties, especially large ones, tend to attract significant public attention. However, the commission remains committed to a fact-based evaluation process. The Fact-Finding Committee is tasked with collecting necessary evidence before deciding on further actions.
The Deputy Secretary-General assured that the EC operates within a legal framework, maintaining neutrality and giving equal importance to all votes. He called for public confidence in the commission's processes, which aim to ensure elections are people-centric and open to scrutiny.
Mr. Saeng concluded by thanking the media and highlighting the importance of collaboration among citizens, government agencies, the media, and voters in strengthening the democratic system. He emphasized that the EC's work cannot be done in isolation and requires the participation of all sectors to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
