Election Commission explains that Pol. Lt. Col. Krapot does not lack qualifications to be a Senator.

EC, EC clarifies that 'Police Lieutenant Colonel Krapot' is not disqualified from being a Senator because he was detained during the investigation for one day and the Appeal Court ordered a fine, so he is not disqualified from running. The Election Commission Office clarified the news that the office did not examine the qualifications and disqualifications of candidates for the senate in Mueang Rayong District, Group 18, mass media, literary creators, or others of the same nature, in the case of Pol. Lt. Col. Koraphot Runghiranwat that in principle, the directors of elections at the district, provincial, and national levels will examine the qualifications and disqualifications of candidates for the senate at each level, as the case may be. Initially, it was found th at Pol. Lt. Col. Koraphot had a history of being detained in Rayong Central Prison, which may be considered a person with prohibited characteristics from applying for the right to be elected as a senator because he was sentenced to imprisonment and detained by a court warrant under Section 14 (8) of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators B.E. 2561. Therefore, a letter was sent on June 1, 2024 to inquire with the commander of Rayong Central Prison. The commander of Rayong Central Prison sent a letter informing of the investigation of the said case that Pol. Lt. Col. Koraphot Runghiranwat was detained according to the detention warrant during the investigation of the lawsuit on August 23, 2018 and was released on the same day. Later, the Court of Appeal Region 2 made a judgment in Red Case No. 2549/2019 to fine 5,000 baht on October 27, 2019. According to the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators B.E. 2561, being detained under the aforementioned warrant and court verdict is not considered a disqu alification for applying to be elected as a senator.
