Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) held a Songkran celebration, with Secretary-General Saeng in a unique way, using holy water guns to add auspiciousness to the Thai New Year. The ECT organized its annual Songkran Festival activities for 2026 to help preserve Thailand's fine traditions, express unity, and demonstrate loyalty to the organization. The event was attended by Mr. Narong Klanwarin, Chairman of the EC, along with Mr. Thitichat Nuchanat, Mr. Anan Suwannarat, Mr. Jirutt Visaljit, members of the Election Commission, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the EC, executives, civil servants, and staff of the EC.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong, presiding over the ceremony, led the ritual of bathing the Buddha statue at the Election Commission office before allowing the Election Commissioners to perform the water-pouring ceremony. Following this, the executives, civil servants, and staff poured water on and sought blessings from the Election Commissioners and the Secretary-General of the Election Commission on the occasion of the Thai New Year. All staff participated in the event in a unified manner.
Mr. Narong remarked that the Songkran Festival is an important and long-standing tradition, a beautiful custom filled with a warm atmosphere. The Election Commission Office prioritizes organizing this event continuously, considering it a virtuous tradition that everyone values and strives to preserve. This makes the Songkran Festival valuable and meaningful to all members of the Election Commission. He therefore urged everyone to help maintain this cultural tradition for generations to come, before wishing everyone good luck and a happy Songkran Day.
During one part of the water-pouring ceremony, Mr. Saeng had prepared a personal water gun containing holy water from Somdej Phra Maha Ratchamongkol Muni (Thongchai Thammachot) of Wat Traimit Witthayaram, which he used to spray those who poured water on him for good fortune.
