Election Commission of Thailand Receives 113 Vote Buying Complaints

Bangkok: The Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) has announced that it has received a total of 113 complaints related to election fraud, with the majority concerning vote buying.

According to Thai News Agency, the ECT emphasized its commitment to addressing all issues related to the election process and urged district officials to report election and referendum results promptly.

Pol. Lt. Col. Chanin Noi Lek, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, reported that the EC held a meeting to clarify various election-related issues, including the management process, damaged ballots, and result reporting errors. The EC has pledged to investigate and take decisive action on all incidents. Pol. Lt. Col. Chanin noted that appeals against election results can be filed until 30 days after the announcement. He addressed criticism regarding vote buying, confirming ongoing investigations and stating that some cases have already been resolved.

Pol. Lt. Col. Nattawat Saengiamsak, another Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, commented on the unofficial reporting system for the elections. He mentioned that technical issues have been resolved, and approximately 94% of the results have been reported. Any inaccuracies identified by the media have been reported for investigation. The provincial EC offices are working to compile official results, which will be sent to the central EC office for final reporting and public verification on the EC website.
