Phitsanulok: The Secretary-General of the Election Commission has mandated the immediate removal of campaign signs for Members of Parliament placed in front of polling stations at the upcoming Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) elections. This directive comes as a measure to protect the fairness of the elections and prevent public confusion.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, communicated through the Election Commission's LINE group that he had observed the distribution of election equipment to polling station committees in preparation for the SAO mayor and member elections scheduled for January 11th in the provinces of Phitsanulok and Phetchabun. During his visit, he noted the presence of campaign signs for parliamentary candidates at a village polling station, which had the same candidate numbers as the SAO candidates, potentially leading to voter confusion.
To maintain the integrity of the SAO elections, the Director of the Provincial Election Commission Office has been instructed to alert all SAOs. Should the Election Commission Committee notify the owners to remove their campaign signs and they fail to comply in a timely manner, the committee is authorized to take necessary actions. These actions may include removing the signs themselves or covering them to obscure any text or numbers that could mislead voters.
