Bangkok: Mr. Saeng Boonmee, the Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), has addressed recent allegations from opposition parties concerning the Senate collusion case. "Saeng" counters the opposition, stating that the Election Commission has processes in place to investigate and verify the facts in the Senate collusion case.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saeng responded to the opposition parties' decision to hold a second forum to present evidence that implicates him in the case. He emphasized that the EC's duty involves not only listening to the opposition's claims but also actively seeking out the truth. He clarified that the fact-finding mission involves rigorous verification, ensuring that witnesses' testimonies align with their previous statements. Mr. Saeng noted that while the forum's witnesses were former Senate candidates, the EC must still verify the authenticity and consistency of their statements.

Mr. Saeng also addressed inquiries about the EC's procedural approach, revealing that they follow the Supreme Court's guidelines for the Senate case from July 2nd. This mandates the EC to gather comprehensive evidence to facilitate an accurate judicial decision. He reassured that a process is in place to confirm whether witness statements match the case file testimonies.

Regarding concerns about potential lawsuits from the opposition under Section 157 for neglect of duty, Mr. Saeng dismissed the notion of it being a political maneuver. Instead, he expressed confidence that all parties involved are committed to fulfilling their responsibilities to ensure a fair and positive outcome.
