Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the Election Commission of Thailand, Saeng Boonmee, is preparing for the upcoming Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO) elections in special areas on January 11th, with parliamentary elections scheduled for February 8th.
According to Thai News Agency, Saeng, in a message posted on his Facebook page, detailed the management of elections under unusual circumstances, emphasizing five key principles to ensure uniformity across the kingdom. The principles aim to uphold the integrity, safety, and fairness of the elections, while also encouraging participation from stakeholders.
The first principle, legality, ensures that all actions, such as advance voting, are authorized by law. The second principle mandates that elections occur simultaneously across all provinces to maintain consistency. Integrity and fairness form the third principle, which underscores the importance of conducting elections without bias. The fourth principle focuses on facilitating the voting process while ensuring voter safety. Finally, the principle of participation calls for consideration of the opinions of stakeholders, including voters and political parties.
Saeng highlighted the significance of adhering to these principles, especially in special areas where SAO elections are set to take place on January 11, 2026. He expressed optimism that the elections could proceed normally and is keenly awaiting the results of these elections to assess the feasibility of the parliamentary elections on February 8th.
