Lopburi: The Election Commission has resolved to prosecute those who obstructed the Election Commission’s duties and assaulted officials during local elections in Lopburi and Songkhla.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission has resolved to prosecute criminal cases against those who physically assaulted officials performing their duties in two local elections, one in Lopburi and one in Songkhla provinces, which fall under Section 66 of the Election Commission Act B.E. 2560.

In the case of the assault of the election director of the Kok Kateim Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Lop Buri Province, the Election Commission has resolved to prosecute Ms. Chamnian, a polling station observer, for assaulting Ms. Yosita Chantawong, the election director of the Kok Kateim Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Mueang Lop Buri District, Lop Buri Province. The incident occurred on October 19, 2015, while Ms. Chantawong was performing her duties to inspect a ballot photo taking incident at a polling station. This offense constitutes obstruction of an election commissioner’s performance of duties by using force and violence, pursuant to Section 66 of the Election Commission Act B.E. 2560. The Election Commission has authorized the Lop Buri Provincial Election Director to file a complaint.

Regarding the assault on a security guard at Polling Station 7 in Pha Wong Subdistrict Municipality, Songkhla Province, on May 11, 2025, the Election Commission resolved to prosecute Mr. Siradanai Plaiduang and seven others under Section 66 of the Election Commission Act B.E. 2560 (2017). The case has entered the court process, with the Criminal Court accepting the case on June 30, 2025. The Election Commission office confirms that obstructing or threatening election officials is a serious offense and will pursue legal action to the fullest extent of the law to protect election officials and ensure that the election is conducted honestly, fairly, and lawfully.
