Nakhon nayok: A herd of wild elephants from Khao Yai National Park recently raided a durian orchard in Nakhon Nayok Province, causing substantial damage estimated at 70,000 baht. The incident, which took place on the night of April 16th, saw approximately 10 elephants descending upon the orchard located in Soi Khao Ratchasi, Moo 3, Sarika Subdistrict, Mueang District.
According to Thai News Agency, villagers attempted to drive the elephants away by setting off firecrackers. The following day, reporters visited the scene to evaluate the damage and spoke with Ms. Sasithorn, the owner of the orchard. She revealed that the elephants had destroyed four large water tanks valued at 60,000 baht and a sprinkler system worth 10,000 baht.
Ms. Sasithorn explained that while elephants had previously visited her orchard, they had only foraged for fruit without causing significant harm. However, this recent raid resulted in unprecedented damage. To safeguard her orchard in the future, she is considering installing wires with a low electric current as a deterrent.
