Bangkok: "Ekanat" reveals the Energy Policy Committee's resolution to reduce diesel prices at refineries in two phases, starting by 5 baht/liter from tomorrow. Mr. Ekanat Promphan, Minister of Energy, announced the committee's decision after the Energy Policy Administration Committee (EPAC) meeting. The move aims to mitigate the impact on the public's cost of living and ensure the stability of energy prices amid the ongoing energy crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, the newly approved price reduction at the refinery for diesel fuel revokes the EPAC announcement from April 8, 2026. The committee has set new price reduction rates for B7, B10, and B20 diesel fuels, which will occur in two phases: a reduction of 5.00 baht per liter from April 24, 2026, to May 9, 2026, followed by a reduction of 3.00 baht per liter from May 10, 2026, to May 19, 2026.
These measures were developed after close monitoring of the oil price situation and refining costs. Following the Energy Policy Committee's resolution on April 7th, the intention is to lower the retail price of oil for the public as part of efforts to alleviate living costs.
Based on data collected and analyzed from April 1st to 16th, it was determined that, despite incremental costs due to the energy crisis, oil refineries had a surplus benefit of 3.43 baht per liter. This surplus is deemed suitable for use as a discount on the refinery price.
Additionally, efforts have been made to standardize data reporting from oil refineries to ensure transparency and fairness in the oversight of fuel pricing structures. This involves ensuring complete and accurate breakdowns of costs and components.
Mr. Ekanat emphasized that the measure aims to reduce public energy costs while balancing cost of living considerations with energy stability. Immediate relief is targeted, with the EPC set to draft and announce the second version of the refinery price reduction for diesel fuel, which will be published in the Royal Gazette and effective from tomorrow.
