ETDA Highlights Digital ID 2.0 to Boost Thailand’s Global Digital Transaction Standards

Bangkok: The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, recently hosted the international conference 'Digital Trust Thailand 2026 - Digital Thailand, World Standard' at the Grande Centre Point Prestige Bangkok. The event gathered policymakers, regulators, trust service providers, and experts from both Thai and international sectors to discuss the advancement of Thailand's digital trust infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Digital ID as a key component in elevating digital services to global standards.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, Deputy Minister of Digital Economy and Society, inaugurated the conference by outlining policy directives and awarding winners from the ETDA Boot Camp 2026. This initiative aims to foster innovative ideas in Digital ID, Verifiable Credential, and Digital Document Wallet among young developers, supporting the development of Thailand's digital trust infrastructure.

Ms. Somchai emphasized that the event signifies Thailand's readiness to transition into a digital government and economy. The focus is on establishing digital trust as a national infrastructure to ensure secure and seamless online transactions. The Ministry is advancing the Digital ID system to become a National Trust Service, aligning with the Digital ID Framework Phase 2 (2025-2027). This framework seeks to expand practical applications across sectors and promote the "ONE ID" concept, enhancing government service delivery and citizen convenience through a Single Sign-On system.

Currently, Thailand's Digital ID system supports over 1,797 government e-services, including tax payments and healthcare eligibility checks, with more than 162.63 million user accounts across various platforms. The ETDA is pushing for Digital ID 2.0 to broaden access for legal entities, foreigners, and vulnerable groups, ensuring equitable access to online services. The ministry is also promoting electronic transactions via the Integrated Document Signing Platform (IDSP) for legal entities, enhancing document reliability and verifiability.

The international conference served as a platform for over 300 participants, including Trust Service providers, cybersecurity, and digital technology experts, to share insights and strategies for developing digital trust. The event featured numerous sessions and workshops, with contributions from organizations such as the World Bank and FIDO Alliance, focusing on verifiable credentials, digital wallets, and advanced security technologies.

Dr. Chaichana Mitraphan, Director of ETDA, presented on Thailand's Digital Trust development, highlighting e-Signature growth and the roadmap for Digital ID 2.0. The conference aimed to prepare Thailand's digital infrastructure for future risks, with discussions on AI integration, Post-Quantum Cryptography, and decentralized ecosystems.

The event facilitated networking and collaboration among government agencies, private companies, and experts, promoting secure and interconnected digital services. The lively atmosphere reflected a strong commitment across sectors to establishing a national Digital Trust Ecosystem in alignment with ASEAN and global standards. The "Digital Trust Thailand 2026 - Digital Thailand, World Standards" event represented a significant collaboration effort, setting the groundwork for Thailand's digital economy and society.
