Ex-Man United midfielder Lingard to represent K League vs. Tottenham

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard will play on an All-Star squad for the South Korean league in a summer exhibition match against Tottenham Hotspur. The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced the starting lineup for Team K League, as chosen by fans, in the match against Spurs on July 31 at Seoul World Cup Stadium. Voting on the K League's official app, Kick, from July 5 to Sunday, determined the starting XI for the South Korean league. (PHOTO NOT FOR SALE) (Yonhap) Lingard, who signed for FC Seoul in February, will be one of three midfielders, alongside his FC Seoul teammate and former Premier Leaguer Ki Sung-yueng and Lee Dong-gyeong of Gimcheon Sangmu FC. Lingard, a former England international, earned the second-most votes with 46,792. Suwon FC forward Lee Seung-woo was the top vote-getter with 48,086. A former FC Barcelona youth player, Lee leads Suwon FC with nine goals this season. Lee will be joined up front by Cesinha of Daegu FC and Joo Min-kyu of Ulsan HD FC. Hwang earned the third-most votes overall with 45,409. Ulsan goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo will be in goal for Team K League. Team K League's coaching staff will select 10 reserves. The Spurs-K League showdown is one of two matches scheduled for the 2024 Coupang Play Series, organized by the namesake streaming platform. Captained by South Korean star Son Heung-min, Spurs will play the German side Bayern Munich on Aug. 3, also at Seoul World Cup St adium. Tickets for both matches have sold out.
