Bangkok: The Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division 1 has disclosed the involvement of five individuals in an exam-stealing ring, with further arrest warrants underway.
According to Thai News Agency, two former subordinates of a previous high-ranking police officer provided information following the arrest of an individual caught stealing a law exam from a renowned university. The suspects initially denied the allegations against them. Pol. Col. Sirawat Deepo, Commander of the Technology Crime Investigation Division 1, has been leading the investigation, which initially began in March with the arrest of a gambling website owner, a repeat offender. This arrest led to the discovery of a connection between the online gambling case from 2013 and the current exam theft incident.
Investigations revealed that Ms. Khanitha, an independent academic with a doctorate degree, was responsible for smuggling the examination papers. Despite not being officially affiliated with the university, she managed to steal the papers by exploiting her connection with an examination officer. Further evidence uncovered financial transactions between the gambling website owner’s mule account and Ms. Khanitha’s account, amounting to 300,000-400,000 baht. However, Pol. Lt. Col. Sirawat refrained from commenting on whether the funds were used to facilitate the theft.
Computer evidence, including a Line chat from two years ago, indicated coordination among five individuals involved in the crime. The group consists of three former policemen, one academic, and one citizen. Following the evidence collection, an arrest warrant was issued by the Bangkok South Criminal Court, leading to the arrest of Ms. Khanitha, who is currently under questioning. Mr. Krits and Mr. Chanon, both linked to the former senior police officer, have also been sought for information due to their connection to the computer used in the crime.
While Ms. Khanitha has denied the charges, she has provided valuable information to the authorities. The investigation is ongoing, with police aiming to issue arrest warrants for all individuals involved. Mr. Krits and Mr. Chanon have recently met with investigators, though they have remained silent during media inquiries regarding their involvement in the case.
