Exciting! Plain-billed Hornbills migrate in flocks.

Songkhla, A rare image of a flock of plain-billed hornbills numbering in the hundreds. The work of a fan of the show 'Phlap Dusk' 'Santi Lee', a bird and nature photographer in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, shared for everyone to enjoy. The work of Mr. Santi, who came to the area to take pictures for fans of the program "Dusk", which is a rare image because it is a large flock of hornbills, more than 300-400 birds, migrating to escape the rain from the central region, in the Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary and Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. Some come from Malaysia to Songkhla Province to gather and mate during June - August. Some years, there are as many as 700 birds. The reason the flock of birds fly here is because of the weather and the abundance of food, both wild fruits in Khao Nam Khang National Park and Sankalakhiri National Park, as well as insects and snails. This picture, Santi, was taken from a rubber plantation of a villager in Nathawi District, Songkhla Province. It is the tal lest tree in the rubber plantation because birds have to be on the lookout for danger and choose to stay in tall trees. Taking pictures of these birds is not easy because we have to understand their behavior. These birds will go out to find food since early morning. They will fly out to find food 20-30 km away and fly back in the evening, giving them a short period of time to record the image before the sun sets. It is considered lucky for the fans of the program to see the cuteness of the Great Hornbill up close. Brother Santi said that the plain-billed hornbill can be identified by its smooth red beak with no notches and a black line under the throat pouch. As for gender, if the throat pouch is yellow, it is male. If the throat pouch is blue, it is female. This type of bird is an excellent flyer and can fly far. Its call is similar to a short, hoarse bark. It can currently be found in the Bang Lang National Park and Hala-Bala Forest Sanctuary. For this kind of atmosphere, it will only last until around Au gust because after this, the birds will pair up and fly back to nest and lay eggs in their original areas at Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary and Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. There are 13 species of hornbills in Thailand. For the Great Hornbill, there are 2 species that Brother Santi photographed, which are the Smooth-billed Great Hornbill. But there is another species called the Common Great Hornbill. The distinguishing feature is the black line on the sac under the neck. Source: Thai News Agency
