Bangkok: Expeditions are underway to clear the area of ??mines in Ban Nong Chan and Nong Ya Kaeo before temporarily placing markers on November 17. However, no Cambodian forces have yet been found to be participating in the operation.
According to Thai News Agency, the 1st Humanitarian Mine Action Unit, in conjunction with the 2nd Engineer Battalion, deployed mine clearance support vehicles to Sector 47, Ban Nong Chan, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, to expedite the clearance of mines before the scheduled marking of the temporary border between Thailand and Cambodia on November 17th.
However, despite a joint agreement between the two countries on mine clearance, no Cambodian officials have been involved in the operation to date. Meanwhile, at Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, while Thai officials are conducting their work, Cambodian soldiers and villagers are keeping close watch, using binoculars to monitor Thai movements at all times. The latest clearing has already taken place, with approximately 10,000 square meters remaining.
