Experts Investigate Collapse of Office of the Auditor General Building

Bangkok: Experts from various agencies, including the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), the Department of Public Works, and Kasetsart University, have entered the site of the Office of the Auditor General building collapse. They are focusing on the elevator shaft and the front pillar, collecting concrete and steel samples for examination. The teams are also expediting the search for missing persons believed to be trapped in the basement.

According to Thai News Agency, the police, along with DSI, the Department of Public Works, and structural engineering experts from Kasetsart University, arrived at the scene to gather pieces of concrete core and steel. Rescue workers and experts are using machinery and gas to cut through the steel as they continue their search efforts.

Officers from the Forensic Science Division and Bang Sue Police Station have collected samples of concrete pillars and steel elevator shaft walls, which are suspected to be the cause of the building’s collapse. Investigators from DSI and Bang Sue Police Station are particularly focused on the elevator shaft area for its critical details. The area has been cordoned off for inspection, and no demolition will occur until all evidence has been collected.

Mr. Suriyachai Rawiwan, Director of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office of Bangkok (BMA), provided a progress update on the search mission. Out of 103 individuals initially reported, 11 remain missing. With three bodies found yesterday, eight individuals are still unaccounted for. Investigators also reported four more individuals, discovering one additional body, bringing the total count to 104, with three more unreported individuals. The mission aims to ensure that no one is left trapped, expecting to conclude the operation within a week once all individuals are accounted for.
