Explain the reasons for not joining the committee to investigate the history of the NLA.

Parliament, 'New-type Senators - Independent' explain reasons for not joining the Sangha ceremony, set up a committee to investigate the history of the NLA, vow not to be a rubber stamp, urge the president to reconsider the stance, if still insist on doing so, may repeat the Senate dictatorship, claim just show peace, come back to work tomorrow The core members of the New Generation and Independent groups of the Senate jointly gave a statement after walking out of the Senate chamber during the voting for the selection of the Standing Committee (SPC) to investigate the history of conduct and ethical behavior of those nominated for the position of Attorney General (OAG). By Dr. Premsak Piayura, Senator, said that our parliamentary duties had to be halted because the chairman of the meeting and the majority had carried out the parliamentary process by using the majority to drag it out, causing us, the minority, to protest in every way, whether it was asking not to vote but to change the format to a lottery so that all proportions could enter the committee, or even asking for a vision to be presented, but the majority did not agree. Therefore, I see that this method has never happened before where the chairman would not compromise with the members, letting the majority keep hammering them out. Therefore, I would like to walk out and not join the Sangha ceremony so that today's meeting will only have people who are the only voices, to select individuals for the justice organization, and to let the public know that there is injustice, which is a stain on this Senate. We have protested, but the results of our protest were unsuccessful. I will not be a rubber stamp for such an unfair process, and I have asked the chairman of the meeting to reconsider, but he did not. Therefore, we have only one weapon: not joining the Sangha ceremony. If we are going to move forward, please accept for yourself what will happen in the future. Senator Nantana Nanthawaropas added that in principle, the establishment of this 15-person com mittee would require a proportional arrangement of how many representatives each group would have. However, the results showed that the groups that had been packed together as the big houses had proposed a total of 15 names, without dividing them among the independent senators. This was considered a hasty and abrupt action, with no regard for the minority senators. Therefore, she felt that this was unlikely to be in accordance with the democratic mechanism, but rather in accordance with the majority's dragging on. While Ms. Angkana Neelapaijit, Senator, said that today everyone has tried their hardest to be patient and tried to propose alternatives for all sectors to participate because they believe that the most important duty of the Senate is to approve individuals who will hold positions in independent organizations. We respect the majority, but the majority must not neglect the minority and must not block them by proposing packages. In the end, this will give some people the power to design or obtain any kind of independent organization. As a minority, the most that can be done is not to participate in this selection, which would be of no use for us to join the group to endorse an unfair resolution. When asked how many new generation senators and civil society senators had joined the walkout, Ms. Angkana said that if we look at the votes today, it should be around 50 people, which is not in the large group. When asked if the consideration of other agendas in the future may cause similar incidents, what is your view on this issue? Ms. Nantana said that in the future, it should be one thing that the large group thinks that they will live together and will use such a quick method. It will make the people feel that this Senate will return to being the Senate as before. It will use the majority vote and not care about the voices of the people. She thinks that such an expression should make the large group realize that their actions will not be accepted by the independent senators. When asked if in the future it will lead to a dictatorship in the Senate, the group of senators who came together to give a press conference said together, "Today it's happened." Ms. Angkana continued that if they still do not change, they can go back. And for our walkout today, we must apologize to the people. But since we have tried our best and sitting still is not beneficial, we will use peaceful means. We will come back to work tomorrow. Source: Thai News Agency
