Extremely Lively! 550,000 People Participated in Songkran on the First Night in Bangkok

Bangkok: Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) revealed the six most popular Songkran water-playing locations for 2026: Siam, Silom, ICONSIAM, S2O, Banthat Thong, and Khao San Road. On the first day, 550,000 people participated, resulting in 58 tons of waste.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok, provided an overview of the Songkran festival situation in Bangkok in 2026. He stated that monitoring of participation in Songkran water-splashing activities throughout Bangkok showed a lively turnout of citizens and tourists. On April 12th, the number of participants at key locations totaled 558,561, with a cumulative total of 603,760 people across Bangkok from April 10-12, 2026.

The top six most popular Songkran water-playing locations in Bangkok in 2026, from data collected between April 10th and April 12th at 2 PM, are as follows: Songkran Siam 2026 at Siam Square attracted the highest number of participants with 183,544 people; Silom Road hosted the Silom Songkran Splash Out with Thai Culture, drawing 162,583 people; ICONSIAM THAICONIC Songkran Celebration 2026 saw 102,000 attendees; S2O Land Bangkok 2026 at Thiam Ruammit Road in Huai Khwang had 42,202 attendees; Banthat Thong Water Street 2026 attracted 20,538 people; and Khao San Road welcomed 20,000 participants.

Additionally, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) monitored the environmental impact, collecting and reporting the amount of waste generated during the Songkran festival. On April 12th, the total amount of waste amounted to 58.65 tons, categorized into 46.38 tons of general waste, 2.66 tons of recyclable waste, and 9.61 tons of food waste. Silom Road in Bang Rak District recorded the highest amount of waste with 25.96 tons of general waste, followed by ICONSIAM in Khlong San District with 6.5 tons, MCOT Plaza in Huai Khwang District with 4.21 tons, King Power Rangnam in Ratchathewi District with 3.42 tons, Siam Square in Pathum Wan District with 1.94 tons, and CentralWorld in Pathum Wan District with 0.95 tons.

The Permanent Secretary of Bangkok added that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has deployed staff to ensure cleanliness, safety, and convenience for the public. They are also campaigning to encourage the public to maintain cleanliness, separate waste, and celebrate Songkran safely to promote a positive image of Thailand as a world-class tourist destination globally.
