Federation of Thai Industries Joins Forces with Semiconductor Board to Boost Local Chip Production

Bangkok: The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) is collaborating with the National Semiconductor Board to advance the production of 'Made in Thailand chips' and enhance industry and workforce capabilities. Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, President of FTI, expressed gratitude to the government for forming the National Advanced Semiconductor and Electronics Industry Policy Committee. She highlighted the significance of this initiative in maintaining policy continuity and increasing Thailand's competitiveness in advanced technology sectors. Chips, she noted, are central to industries such as electric vehicles, automation, robotics, smart appliances, AI systems, and data centers, with Thailand playing a crucial role as a global production and export hub.

According to Thai News Agency, despite Thailand's extensive high-tech manufacturing facilities, the country still imports chips due to high production costs, which poses a supply chain risk. Previously, Thailand devised a strategy to become ASEAN's advanced semiconductor and electronics hub by 2050, aiming to realize 'Made-in-Thailand Chips.' This strategy seeks to attract 2.5 trillion baht in investments and develop over 230,000 skilled professionals.

FTI is prepared to work with the National Advanced Semiconductor and Electronics Industry Policy Committee to support Thai entrepreneurs in advancing from assembly operations to cutting-edge technologies. The initiative also aims to draw upstream industries, such as IC design, to Thailand, contributing to the creation of "Made-in-Thailand Chips." FTI is dedicated to developing a skilled workforce in line with advanced technologies, emphasizing research and development to transform Thailand from a technology consumer to a sustainable innovation hub in ASEAN.
