According to Thai News Agency, a 90-day drug crackdown operation was launched, involving police, local administration officials, and community leaders. They raided a hut in the middle of a rice field west of Ban Pho Charoen, Moo 15, Ban Lao Subdistrict, Mueang Chaiyaphum District, arresting a 43-year-old woman, Ms. Chonthisa, or "Tak," along with 1,535 methamphetamine pills. Authorities then planned a sting operation, using the woman to arrange a purchase of an additional 4,000 pills for 44,000 baht.
The delivery was arranged on the Chaiyaphum-Nong Bua Daeng road near Ban Huai Ton, Huai Ton Subdistrict, where officers were lying in wait. They apprehended two women, both approximately 40 years old. Upon inspecting the package, officers were surprised to find only two packages of rice. The two women were taken into custody for questioning. They admitted to arranging the drug sale by phone but claimed the woman had been dishonest and failed to pay for the drugs several times before. They claimed they brought the rice packages to exchange for the 44,000 baht, not realizing they had been set up in a sting operation. Urine tests showed no traces of drugs, and therefore, the two women had to be released.
