Bangkok: A fire broke out at a warehouse in the Rat Burana 29 area of Bangkok in the middle of the night. Officials took over three hours to put out the blaze, but no injuries or deaths were reported. Meanwhile, a fire broke out inside Wat Phichit Yatikaram Worawihan in Khlong San District. Officials put out the fire in 13 minutes.
According to Thai News Agency, the fire at Wat Phichit Yatikaram Worawihan started at 11:53 a.m. yesterday. The Pak Khlong San Fire and Rescue Station responded promptly to the blaze, which engulfed a single-story concrete multi-purpose hall used for temple activities. The fire was extinguished in about 13 minutes. Witnesses reported hearing explosions before the fire, with initial damage assessments indicating harm to Buddha statues, doors, windows, and ceilings within the hall.
In a separate incident in Phuket, a fire at the Thanon Khwang Market was suspected to have been caused by a gas tank leak. Firefighters from Wichit Subdistrict Municipality managed to control the blaze i
n 15 minutes, with no injuries or fatalities reported. The municipality’s disaster prevention unit is now educating vendors on safe gas tank use and basic firefighting techniques.
Back in Bangkok, Police Lieutenant Narasak Wongprotha received a report of the Rat Burana warehouse fire, prompting a swift response from the Rat Burana Fire and Rescue Station and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. The fire raged through four adjacent warehouses, causing thick smoke and intermittent explosions. The warehouses contained electrical appliances and electric bicycles, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
Security guard Mr. Muhammad, who witnessed the incident, reported seeing smoke before calling the fire department. Despite the quick response, the fire spread rapidly with several loud explosions. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, pending investigation by forensic officers and relevant agencies.
