Fire Damages Necklace of Phaya Sri Sattanakarat Statue in Nakhon Phanom

Nakhon Phanom:A fire broke out early this morning around 4 AM, damaging the necklace adorning the Phaya Sri Sattanakarat statue in the Nakhon Phanom municipal area. The incident, believed to have been accidentally caused by fireworks, left the statue itself unharmed due to its brass construction. The local municipality has since cleaned the site and replaced the damaged necklace, restoring the statue's appearance.

According to Thai News Agency, Phaya Sri Sattanakarat is a significant landmark in Nakhon Phanom, depicting a seven-headed serpent with deep cultural and religious symbolism. The statue, made entirely of brass and standing at a height of 10.90 meters, is integral to the province's identity and is associated with the Phra That Phanom pagoda, a spiritual center for Buddhists worldwide.

The statue represents tranquility and prosperity for the city, facing northeast towards Nakhon Phanom. Annually, a ceremony is held on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month at the Phaya Sri Sattanakarat plaza, involving various sectors of the community. The statue is part of a larger open-air plaza where people come to pay homage and seek blessings, with many reporting fulfilled wishes after their visits.
