Bangkok: A fire broke out in a community house behind Wongwian Yai Railway Station in Thonburi District late last night. The fire raged from the second floor of a wooden house that was rented out. Residents fled in panic. No deaths or injuries were reported. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
According to Thai News Agency, the blaze originated from the second floor of a rental wooden house in the Bang Yi Ruea Subdistrict, Thon Buri District. The fire rapidly spread to neighboring houses, forcing residents to scramble to escape. The incident occurred around midnight, catching many residents off guard as they were asleep. Thon Buri District Firefighters, along with Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers, rushed to the site to assist residents and douse the flames. However, the narrow alleyway leading to the house posed a significant challenge, preventing large fire trucks from accessing the scene. As a result, firefighting equipment had to be manually carried to the site, and
it took over 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Ms. Durian, a secondhand goods seller and the first to witness the incident, informed reporters that she heard two or three loud explosions before seeing flames engulfing a neighboring room on the house’s second floor. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit from an electrical outlet, which quickly spread to the roof and adjacent houses. Unable to contain the fire herself, Ms. Durian evacuated with her parents and alerted neighbors for help.
While the fire resulted in no injuries or fatalities, the house where it originated was completely destroyed, and the adjacent house suffered damage primarily to its second floor. Although the fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, further forensic examination is required to confirm the cause.
