Bangkok: A fireworks factory explosion in Phetchaburi province on Tuesday injured two people and damaged nearly 10 surrounding houses, local authorities said.
According to Thai News Agency, the blast injured the factory owners, a married couple who sustained minor cuts and scratches and were treated at a local hospital.
The force of the explosion caused structural damage to nearly 10 nearby homes, destroying roofs, collapsing ceilings, and shattering windows. Two vehicles parked in the area were also damaged. Financial losses have not yet been evaluated.
According to the initial investigation, the couple was at the property when gunpowder stored in the garage area detonated. The blast was heard over 10 kilometers away.
Police noted that the business had been operating legally with a proper fireworks manufacturing permit for over 40 years. The area has been cordoned off as forensic experts investigate the exact cause of the explosion.
