KANTANG: The first vineyard in Kantang District, Trang Province, is set to open its gates for visitors and grape enthusiasts this New Year. My wife tricked me into going on a trip and stopped to taste grapes at a garden in Trang city. I was so impressed with the taste that I bought over 70 grape saplings and planted them on 2 rai of land, making it the first and only vineyard in Kantang District, Trang Province. It is expected that this New Year the vineyard will be opened and ready to sell no less than 1 ton.
According to Thai News Agency, the vineyard is owned by Mr. Kanet Minnet (Bo), age 40, and Mrs. Chalathip Minnet (Dao), age 36, a married couple residing in Village No. 2, Yan Sue Subdistrict. They embarked on this venture after Mr. Kanet was captivated by the flavor of grapes at Khunkrai Garden, Ban Khuan Subdistrict. The couple now cultivates seven varieties of grapes on their 2 rai plot, with over 70 grapevines that have already begun to flower and bear fruit.
The Minnet family aims to nourish the
first generation of grapevines to ensure robust future harvests. With plans to transform their vineyard into a chemical-free agricultural tourism destination, they anticipate selling more than 1 ton of grapes, valued at over 200,000 baht, in January. The high quality of the produce is attributed to the fertile soil and regular fertilization practices.
Mr. Kanet’s journey into viticulture began after his wife took him to taste grapes at Khunkrai Garden, sparking the idea of cultivating grapes in Kantang. Despite lacking formal agricultural training, Mr. Kanet’s passion drove him to learn through social media and expert advice. His dedication has borne fruit, literally, with grapevines thriving in both the front and backyard of their property, much to the surprise of skeptical neighbors. The vineyard has already attracted visitors eager to purchase the grapes, with orders pouring in even before the official opening.
