Bangkok: Fishermen were shocked to discover four sacks containing over 1.26 million methamphetamine pills along the Mekong River. An investigation is underway.

According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army, through the 2nd Army Area Command and the Northeastern Border Narcotics Suppression and Interdiction Command (NBN.YS.24), has directed the Nong Khai Provincial Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Unit to collaborate with multiple agencies. The Nong Khai City District Narcotics Prevention and Suppression Center is spearheading this effort, integrating forces with the Surasakmontri Task Force, the Upper Narcotics Suppression and Interdiction Unit of the 2nd Control Command (R.13), and the 2nd Narcotics Suppression and Interdiction Company of the Surasakmontri Task Force. Their mission is to thoroughly inspect the banks of the Mekong River at Ban Hin Ngom, Village No. 2, Hin Ngom Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District, Nong Khai Province.

This investigation was prompted when fishermen in the Ban Hin Ngom area stumbled upon a suspicious object along the riverbank. They immediately reported their find to the community leader, who subsequently contacted the authorities to conduct an investigation.

Upon inspection, officials discovered four sacks filled with approximately 1,267,800 methamphetamine pills, classified as category 1 narcotics. At the scene, no individual came forward to claim ownership or responsibility for the items.

In the aftermath of the seizure, authorities transported all confiscated items to the Nong Khai District Office for a meticulous count. Additionally, efforts are underway to gather evidence and expand the investigation to identify and prosecute the drug trafficking network involved, in accordance with the law.
