Flash Floods Devastate Uthai Thani’s Ban Rai District

Uthai Thani:Flash floods swept through Ban Bueng Subdistrict in the Ban Rai District during the night, causing panic among residents. The sudden deluge left villagers with little time to secure their belongings as they struggled to move their possessions to safety. Farmers in the area also faced challenges, relocating their livestock to escape the rising waters.

According to Thai News Agency, the floodwaters, characterized by their muddy, reddish hue, cascaded down from the mountains, inundating Ban Sanam village with alarming speed. The rapid rise of water levels prompted local agencies to assess the damage and provide assistance to those affected.

The floods severely impacted livestock, with villagers resorting to moving piglets onto pickup trucks and chickens onto roofs. One owner recounted waking up to find his pig and chicken coops submerged, forcing him to swiftly relocate the animals to higher ground. Additionally, the entire durian orchard in the area was reported to be completely underwater.

In a related development in Chachoengsao province, residents of Sala Daeng Subdistrict in Bang Nam Priao District protested at the Khlong Luang Phaeng floodgate. They demanded that the Royal Irrigation Department increase the gate's opening from 30 cm to 50 cm to alleviate prolonged flooding and drain stagnant, polluted water affecting over 1,800 households. Negotiations led by the subdistrict chief and village headman resulted in officials agreeing to the residents' request to open the floodgate further.
