Bangkok: An investigation into a drug smuggling operation involving a flight attendant has revealed the involvement of two significant drug dealers orchestrating shipments to Australia and Taiwan, with Thailand serving as a critical transit point.
According to Thai News Agency, the Secretary-General of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has provided updates on the case, which has expanded significantly since the arrest of Ms. Meena, a Thai Airways flight attendant, in Australia. The investigation has identified numerous individuals involved, including two major figures operating from a neighboring country. These individuals are suspected of controlling the drug shipments to Australia and Taiwan using Thailand as a transit hub.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Suriya Singhakamol, the Secretary-General of the ONCB, indicated that the Metropolitan Police are actively pursuing leads to unravel the network. Authorities have been tracking a delivery rider for questioning to clarify details surrounding the smuggling operation. Efforts are also underway to locate and question other individuals involved, including a person who transported the package and the car driver. Additionally, a Laotian couple has been taken in for questioning to deepen the investigation into the drug trafficking network. The two key figures in this operation are believed to be orchestrating the dispatch of drugs in separate shipments to the two countries.
In Thailand, investigators are probing further to determine whether any major local figures are part of this network, as the country has been primarily used as a transit point. Communication and transactions appear to be conducted independently among the dealers and the recipients in the target countries.
Regarding the second case involving the couple, they reportedly dispatched the last batch of drugs on June 28th. Subsequently, all the drugs were traced back to Ms. Meena, prompting arrests at three locations on June 30th and July 1st, along with earlier actions. The investigation continues to expand, with authorities promising to disclose additional participants as the inquiry progresses. Further instructions from the Prime Minister are anticipated later today.
