Flood Crisis in Nan Province: MPs Establish 24-Hour Coordination Center Amid Rising Waters

Nan: MPs from the Nan Provincial Disaster Relief Unit have set up a 24-hour coordination center to assist flood victims and warned downstream areas to prepare for overflowing river banks. Members of Parliament from Nan Province have set up a base to assist flood victims, opening a 24-hour coordination center and warning downstream areas to prepare for overflowing river banks.

According to Thai News Agency, the People's Party team in Nan Province, led by Mr. Chaowit Innoi, MP for Nan Constituency 1, and Mr. Charoen Apipatkosol, MP for Nan Constituency 3, continues to stay in the area to assist flood victims. They have established a 24-hour situation monitoring and coordination center since yesterday, working with government agencies and local administrative organizations to expedite the distribution of aid and receive complaints from those affected as quickly as possible.

Throughout last night, the People's Party MPs from both constituencies, along with their provincial teams, patrolled the affected areas, monitored water levels at various high-risk locations, and warned the public to prepare for the rising floodwaters. They also dispatched boats to deliver drinking water, survival kits, dry food, and essential supplies to flood victims in temporary evacuation centers and to those still stranded in their homes and unable to leave.

This morning, Mr. Chaowit, along with Mr. Phatarapong Leelaphat, MP for Chiang Mai from the People's Party and Chairman of the House of Representatives' Committee on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, visited disaster victims at the temporary shelter in Nan Municipality. Their purpose was to listen to their problems and concerns, gather information on the damage, coordinate the provision of essential supplies with relevant agencies, and prepare to push forward recommendations on disaster management at the House of Representatives level.

As of 6:00 AM, the flood situation in the area remains critical in several locations within Mueang Nan District, particularly on Nor Kham Road, where the water level is 1-1.7 meters deep. On Mano Road and near Sri Nan Girls' School, the water level is approximately 40-60 centimeters, and in some areas, it's over 1 meter deep. As a result, small vehicles cannot pass, and only boats and high-clearance vehicles are available for rescue operations.

As of 7:00 AM, data from water level monitoring stations showed that at station N.64, Ban Pha Khwang, Mueang Nan District, the water level was 9.57 meters, exceeding the bank level but showing a downward trend. At station N.1, in front of the Forestry Office, Mueang Nan District, the water level was 8.53 meters, also exceeding the bank level and showing a continuous upward trend.

However, what needs to be closely monitored now is the mass of water flowing from upstream areas into downstream areas. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has recently sent flood warning messages via cell broadcast to residents in Wiang Sa District, especially in the sub-districts of Klang Wiang, Lai Nan, Khung, and San, as the water level in the Nan River reached its peak around 8:00 AM. Therefore, residents living along the riverbanks and in high-risk areas are urged to immediately move their belongings to higher ground. If the situation is deemed unsafe or assistance with evacuation is required, please immediately contact your village headman, sub-district chief, or local administrative organization.

The People's Party's MP for Nan, along with the provincial team, will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with all sectors to ensure that assistance reaches the people of Nan in all areas as quickly as possible.
