Flood Relief Efforts Underway for Bangkok Schools

Bangkok:The Ministry of Education is implementing measures to assist schools affected by severe flooding, conducting damage assessments, and allocating central government funds for necessary repairs.

According to Thai News Agency, Education Minister Prasert Chantharawong stated that 155 schools in Bangkok remain flooded, with efforts underway to evaluate damages for funding requests. Schools have been given the authority to suspend classes if required due to the ongoing flood situation.

The flooding, which has persisted for several days, has also led to schools being used as shelters and parking areas. The Ministry of Education has directed institutions, including vocational schools and those under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, to aid in post-flood cleanup, set up kitchens, and provide facilities for vehicle repairs.

The Pheu Thai Party has established a coordination center to assist affected communities and is distributing relief packages in Bangkok and surrounding areas. Visits to five schools revealed continued high water levels, though some schools are on holiday, allowing for the postponement of primary school exams.

Minister Chantharawong confirmed that classes will not resume this week. A reassessment is planned once floodwaters recede to determine when schools can safely reopen.
