Bangkok: The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a cell broadcast warning to residents in four Thai provinces-Phitsanulok, Mae Hong Son, Phrae, and Nakhon Phanom-urging them to prepare for possible flooding. The warnings come as continuous rainfall in these areas raises the risk of flash floods, standing water, mudslides, and landslides.
According to Thai News Agency, the DDPM's warnings include specific alerts for each province. In Phitsanulok, water levels in the Khlong Chomphu canal are expected to rise, potentially leading to overflow in Chomphu Subdistrict, Nen Maprang District. Residents in areas along the canal and low-lying regions are advised to be particularly cautious.
Mae Hong Son has been alerted to the possibility of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, especially in the low-lying areas and hillsides of the Mae Hong Son city district, including Huai Pong and Huai Pu Ling subdistricts, Khun Yuam district, Mae Sariang district, and Sop Moei district.
In Phrae, the warning highlights the risk of flash floods and standing water, particularly in the Wang Chin district. Meanwhile, Nakhon Phanom is bracing for similar conditions, with a focus on the Mueang Nakhon Phanom district.
Residents in these provinces are advised to move belongings to higher ground, relocate vehicles, secure valuables and important documents, and be cautious of electric shock. Special care should be taken for vulnerable groups. Assistance can be sought from village headmen, local administrative organizations, or through the emergency hotline 1784, which operates 24 hours a day.
