Bang sai: High floodwaters in Bang Sai, Ayutthaya, have significantly affected local farmers, forcing them to wade through water to continue their work. Many roads have been cut off, complicating daily life for villagers in the area.
According to Thai News Agency, the flood situation in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province has seen water levels in the Chao Phraya River and the Noi River remain high, affecting 12 districts, 145 sub-districts, and 946 villages. A total of 65,147 households have been impacted, with the flooding resulting in 20 deaths.
Reporters visiting Village No. 2 in Wang Phatthana Subdistrict, Bang Sai District, found that water levels have completely submerged rice fields. Residents living along two canals that draw water from the Noi River through Sena District into Bang Sai District have experienced rising water levels. This situation has severely impacted homes and the livelihoods of ornamental and foliage plant growers. These farmers are forced to wade through the water to work, fearing the impact on their income during the New Year’s sales season. They anticipate that the water will persist until the new year.
Ms. Kanchana, an owner of an ornamental and foliage plant garden, disclosed that floodwaters have been rising for about two months, despite reports of reduced water drainage. Her garden had previously relocated to avoid floodwaters in 2022 but continues to face challenges. With dams proving ineffective against the massive water influx, she now pumps water daily and wades through it to cut plants for sale during the New Year period. Her drying cabinets have been submerged, forcing her to move plants to less flooded gardens. The New Year sales period is crucial for her income, and she remains worried as water levels show no signs of receding.
