Flooding in the South: Situation Improves but Threats Persist in Several Provinces.

Bangkok: Flood waters in the southern regions of Thailand are beginning to recede, bringing some relief to the residents. However, many areas remain submerged, prompting ongoing rescue and relief efforts. The Huk 31 Korat Water Rescue Team has mobilized volunteers equipped with rescue gear and rubber boats to assist flood-stricken communities, particularly focusing on the city district of Pattani Province. Here, floodwaters have risen to the level where only high-rise vehicles can traverse the roads, leaving residents in single-story homes severely affected and reliant on emergency aid.

According to Thai News Agency, in Yala Province, the cessation of heavy rainfall has resulted in a significant decrease in flooding levels in most areas, though concerns remain for three sub-districts: Tha Sap, Na Tham, and Yupo. In Yala Municipality, floodwaters have mostly receded, but some low-lying alleys and parts of the new city market remain inundated. Communities such as Ban Rom, Sateng, and Sai 15 are witnessing a gr
adual return to normalcy, but residents are still cautious, keeping their belongings elevated in anticipation of further rainfall that could affect thousands of households.

In Songkhla Province, particularly in Hat Yai District, floodwaters have completely receded, and locals have started cleaning their homes. Areas that were heavily flooded, such as Latda Village, are now dry, though the aftermath of debris and garbage poses another challenge for the residents.

Meanwhile, in Narathiwat Province, the local populace is preparing for potential future flooding despite recent improvements in water levels. The province, which has experienced casualties including two deaths, remains under threat with warnings of continued heavy rainfall, flash floods, and mudslides until early December.

The overall flood situation in the South continues to be worrisome, affecting seven provinces: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The disaster has resulted in 12 fatalities and impac
ted over 617,386 households, highlighting the urgent need for ongoing relief efforts and preparedness measures.
