Chainat: Flooding continues to affect residents in the Mueang Chainat District as the Chao Phraya River rises, with water levels reaching 35 centimeters at the pier in front of Wat Pa Chao Phraya. Villagers have resorted to using sandbags as makeshift beds for the past four days.
According to Thai News Agency, the flooding in Chainat Province is a result of the Chao Phraya River’s persistent rise, which has inundated areas in the Mueang Chainat District. The pier in front of Wat Pa Chao Phraya, where the sacred Buddha image Luang Pho Yai is located, is submerged under more than 35 centimeters of water. This situation has affected dozens of houses along the river in Ban Kluai Subdistrict, forcing residents of single-story homes to use sandbags as walkways and platforms under their mattresses, which are merely 30 centimeters above the floodwater. The villagers have been enduring these conditions for four days, bracing for a potential escalation of the crisis.
The current water flow through Nakhon Sawan Province is recorded at 3,011 cubic meters per second, while the flow upstream of the Chao Phraya Dam in Chainat Province is 3,537 cubic meters per second. The Royal Irrigation Department is managing the situation by releasing 2,900 cubic meters per second downstream of the dam, which has resulted in an 18-centimeter increase in the water level in Sapphaya District to 16.67 meters. Consequently, there has been extensive flooding downstream of the dam in Sapphaya District.
