Football Association of Thailand Parts Ways with Head Coach Masatada Ishii

Bangkok: The Football Association of Thailand has officially announced the departure of head coach Masatada Ishii from the Thai national team following a review of his management style by the association’s technical team. The decision was made after it was determined that Ishii’s methods did not align with the association’s expectations.

According to Thai News Agency, the association’s technical management team, which includes Dr. Chanwit Pholchiwin, Vice President of the Association; Piyapong Pue-on, Board Member; and Ekapol Pholnawi, Secretary-General, met with Ishii on October 21, 2025, at the association’s office. The meeting concluded with the termination of the Japanese head coach’s contract. The decision was based on the recent management approach and overall performance since Ishii took charge of the War Elephants in December 2023, achieving a record of 16 wins out of 30 matches, equating to a 53% win rate.

The Football Association of Thailand expressed gratitude to Masatada Ishii for his dedication and efforts in enhancing the Thai national team’s standards during his tenure. The association wishes Ishii and his coaching staff success in their future endeavors.

In the wake of Ishii’s departure, the Football Association’s technical department is tasked with swiftly appointing a new head coach to ensure continuity in team operations. The Thai national team is scheduled to participate in upcoming competitions during the FIFA Day calendar for November 2025, starting with a home friendly against Singapore on November 13, 2025, followed by a visit to Sri Lanka for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on November 18, 2025.
