Bangkok: "Sihasak" acknowledges the challenges faced by LGBTQ individuals traveling abroad due to their titles not matching their gender identity. He stated that efforts to clarify the situation with immigration officials have been successful, and pointed out that legally, titles in passports must also change if gender identity changes.
According to Thai News Agency, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew, in an interview regarding the LGBTQ+ community's claims of being negatively affected by using gender-neutral prefixes when traveling abroad, stated that "We are aware of this issue, but we can work with the Immigration Department to understand the specific laws and regulations involved, as Thailand already recognizes this."
When asked by reporters whether changing one's title based on gender identity would cause problems when traveling abroad, Mr. Sihasak said that when one's status changes, the title in their Thai passport must also be changed, as a new passport is required according to the law.
