Forensic Science Department to Inspect Dhara Dhevi Hotel Fire Scene

Chiang Mai: The Forensic Science Department is gearing up to conduct an exhaustive inspection of the fire scene at the Dhara Dhevi Hotel this afternoon. More than 30 hours have elapsed since the blaze erupted at the Devaspa wooden house group within the hotel premises located in Chiang Mai Province. The fire, which has now been extinguished at all points, has left the once-celebrated luxury hotel in ruins.

According to Thai News Agency, the fire ravaged a cluster of seven wooden buildings in the Devaspa area of the Dhara Dhevi Hotel, which was renowned as a world-class 5-star luxury destination. Forensic police are set to carry out a detailed examination to determine the exact cause of the fire, following a preliminary inspection conducted yesterday. Initial assessments had to be limited due to some areas still smoldering. The fire is believed to have started in the central building behind the entrance arch, suffering the most extensive damage. Preliminary reports from the caretaker suggest that the buildings were abandoned, with all water and electricity systems disconnected. Investigators are probing whether there were any unauthorized electrical connections or if human actions played a role in the blaze. Notably, the hotel lacked fire insurance coverage.

Mr. Damrongsak, the venue’s caretaker, reported that police have been maintaining a security presence around the clock. The hotel’s management has already assessed the damage. In a statement following the fire, the Dhara Dhevi Hotel clarified that the spa zone building, where the fire took place on April 23rd, was not near the ‘Kad Dhara Dhevi’ event area. To ensure safety and convenience, the ‘Kad Dhara Dhevi Summer Music in the Garden’ event, initially scheduled for April 25-27th, has been postponed to May 1-4th.
