Former City Official Surrenders After Fatally Shooting Motorcycle Taxi Driver in Soi Ratchada 10

Bangkok: A former city official shot and killed a motorcycle taxi driver in Soi Ratchada 10 following an argument believed to stem from a personal conflict. The perpetrator is preparing to surrender to police. According to Thai News Agency, the fatal shooting occurred at approximately 9:00 AM at a motorcycle taxi stand at the entrance of Soi Prachasanti 11-2, located within Soi Ratchadaphisek 10 in the Huai Khwang area. The victim was discovered slumped on a chair at the taxi stand, with two gunshot wounds to the head. Witnesses recounted that before the incident, the victim was eating at a street food stall nearby and subsequently returned to the motorcycle taxi stand to wait for customers. The perpetrator, identified as Mr. Chu, is a former Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) city inspector with a record of similar offenses, including previous shootings in the area and multiple arguments with the deceased. The confrontation began while the victim was seated at the taxi stand. The assailant, Mr. Chu , rode a motorcycle from his residence in the alley, approached the victim, and initiated a heated argument. He then returned to his residence only to come back armed with a gun. Despite being threatened, the victim challenged the assailant, who then shot him twice at point-blank range, resulting in instant death. Following the shooting, the assailant returned home and remained silent. The perpetrator's son later intervened, persuading his father to surrender, although Mr. Chu initially requested time to compose himself. Eventually, with the help of fellow municipal officers, he turned himself in at Huai Khwang Police Station. Reports suggest that the deceased had a reputation for drinking alcohol, speaking loudly, and playing music at high volumes, behavior that annoyed several people, including the perpetrator. In response to the incident, police officers from Huai Khwang Police Station, along with forensic experts, conducted an inspection of the crime scene and sought CCTV footage from nearby buildings.
