Bangkok: A former executive of a major mobile phone company has surrendered to police in connection with a hit-and-run incident, accompanied by his lawyer, to file a police report at Lat Phrao Police Station. The former executive claims he did not flee the scene but went to the wrong police station, while an online seller accused him of hit-and-run.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident led an online merchant to seek help from the "Sai Mai Must Survive" Facebook page to follow up on the case, fearing police bias and delays due to the involvement of the former executive. The executive later met with investigators to file a complaint against the online merchant for assault.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Anusorn Krittiyachoti, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation at Lat Phrao Police Station, stated that investigators had attempted mediation between the parties, but no agreement was reached. The former executive also presented a medical certificate as evidence for the assault complaint, but it could not be used in the case file.
The investigation into the assault case is supported by strong video evidence. However, due to the delay in filing the report, action against the executive for alleged drunk driving cannot proceed. The incident occurred in January, but the report was filed in March, preventing a timely blood alcohol test. The victim's demand for 70,000 baht in compensation remains unresolved, as it depends on mutual agreement or a potential lawsuit in court.
Regarding allegations of bias by the investigating officer, the deputy superintendent clarified that the officer in question was not handling the case directly. The former executive's failure to report to the correct police station led to a hit-and-run charge, carrying a penalty of imprisonment or fine.
After giving his statement, the former executive expressed willingness to negotiate despite filing an assault complaint. He denied allegations of alcohol consumption and explained leaving the scene for safety reasons.
