Bangkok: A former police officer close to "Big Jok," a nickname for General Apirat Kongsompong, has filed a complaint against a lawyer for allegedly fabricating false evidence. The complaint requests an investigation into the lawyer's professional conduct, citing concerns over the creation of false evidence.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Pakphum Phisamai, once a close associate of Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, the former Deputy Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, submitted documentary evidence, including audio clips, to the Lawyers Council of Thailand under the Royal Patronage. The complaint alleges that Pol. Gen. Surachet influenced and pressured witnesses in a significant case to fabricate false evidence.
Police Colonel Phakphum revealed that the complaint was prompted by the discovery of an audio clip used by the police during a press conference about a gold bribery case before the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). The clip purportedly contains the voice of a lawyer who seems to have fabricated evidence, shifted blame onto himself, and advised witnesses to provide false testimony. The audio details suspicious circumstances, suggesting the speaker was unaware of being recorded.
The primary aim of today's filing is to request an investigation into ethical conduct as a form of self-defense. The clip also alleges personal relationships between a former deputy national police chief and individuals in independent organizations with the authority to investigate the gold bribery case, including the courts and the NACC. This raises concerns over its potential impact on the case. Additionally, there is a possibility that the opposing party might claim the clip was created using AI. The police and related agencies must verify the facts to address such claims.
It has been reported that Pol. Gen. Surachet will hold a press conference tomorrow at the Hilton Bangkok Grand Asoke Hotel at 10:00 AM.
