Bangkok: The Commander of the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD) has revealed the arrest of individuals involved in a cheating scandal at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Law. The incident has raised questions about the involvement of a former high-ranking police officer, identified in the case.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwpaen, the Commander of TCSD, disclosed that the investigation began following the arrest of Ms. Khanitha, a 53-year-old independent academic with a PhD. Upon inspection of confiscated computer equipment, it was discovered that exam papers from Chulalongkorn University had been illegally obtained. Ms. Khanitha, allegedly close to the exam writer, smuggled out these papers to assist someone intending to take the exam.
The investigation uncovered a LINE chat from two years ago, which coordinated the illicit acquisition of exam papers. It was found that two individuals, close to the former high-ranking police officer, were involved. Both individuals voluntarily approached the investigator, leading to immediate charges against them, while Ms. Khanitha was released on bail.
Amid the unfolding investigation, the Cyber Police Commander is tracing the financial connections related to the scandal. The individualized nature of the exam questions, which directly link to specific individuals, complicates the former officer’s ability to deny involvement. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the source of the leaked questions. The test scores and further details remain confidential as they are part of the active case file.
