Four Thais Apprehended for Illegal Border Crossing After Being Abandoned by Chinese Employers

Aranyaprathet: The Burapha Task Force arrested four Thais for illegally crossing the border. They confessed to being invited to work as administrators in Poipet, but were ultimately abandoned by their Chinese employer.

According to Thai News Agency, the Eastern Command, specifically the Aranyaprathet Task Force, apprehended the four individuals-three men and one woman-while they attempted to cross from Cambodia into Thailand on foot. The incident took place at a natural crossing point in the area of Ban Khok Sabaeng, Tha Kham Subdistrict, Aranyaprathet District, Sa Kaeo Province.

During questioning, one of the suspects revealed they had responded to a job advertisement on Facebook for an admin position with a monthly salary of 25,000 baht. Persuaded by the offer, they convinced three friends to join them. Their journey began in Bangkok, culminating at Rong Kluea Market in Aranyaprathet District, where an unidentified Thai man escorted them through a natural crossing into Cambodia. Once in Cambodia, they were taken to a Chinese employer in a gray four-story building to work as administrators.

Their employment lasted about three months until a crackdown on scam networks in Poipet led to their Chinese employer fleeing, abandoning the company and its employees. Left without support, the group decided to return to Thailand, opting for natural border crossings.

However, they were apprehended by border patrol officers during their return. Following their capture, the four Thai nationals were handed over to investigators at Khlong Luek Police Station for legal proceedings. Authorities plan to further investigate the smuggling operation responsible for trafficking Thais to work in Cambodia.
