Fuel Price Hike: Diesel and Gasoline Prices to Surge Amid Global Tensions

Bangkok: Hurry to the gas station! Tomorrow, diesel fuel prices will increase by 0.75 baht/liter, and gasoline by 0.60 baht/liter. The relentless attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have driven global oil prices to $164. Unable to subsidize prices any longer, the Oil and Gas Management Organization (OGO) has increased fuel prices by 0.60-0.75 baht per liter, effective September 2nd.

According to Thai News Agency, the Fuel Fund Management Committee (FFMC) has approved a price increase for all types of fuel, raising diesel prices by 0.75 baht per liter and gasoline prices by 0.60 baht per liter. This price increase stems from renewed tensions in the Middle East resulting from military clashes and economic measures between the United States and Iran, severely impacting the energy market and causing global oil prices to rise continuously. On September 1, 2026, the price of diesel in the Singapore market surged to approximately US$164 per barrel, while gasoline soared to approximately US$123 per barrel. This has severely affected the Fuel Fund's liquidity, which is currently burdened with compensation payments of approximately 357 million baht per day. Therefore, an urgent measure is needed to reduce this burden and ensure the fund's liquidity is sufficient to maintain long-term price stability and cope with fluctuations in global fuel prices.

Specifically for diesel fuel, the subsidy for regular diesel was increased by 0.27 baht per liter, bringing the total subsidy to 5.00 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 39.14 baht per liter. The subsidy for B20 diesel was increased by 0.15 baht per liter, bringing the total subsidy to 9.43 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 34.14 baht per liter. The tax on premium diesel is 1.50 baht per liter.

For gasoline and gasohol fuels, the tax on gasoline increased by 0.09 baht per liter to 6.14 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 47.28 baht per liter. The subsidy for Gasohol 95 decreased by 0.14 baht per liter to 0.98 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 38.29 baht per liter. Gasohol 91 decreased by 0.14 baht per liter to 0.98 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 37.92 baht per liter. Gasohol E20 decreased by 0.18 baht per liter to 4.62 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 33.29 baht per liter. And Gasohol E85 decreased by 0.44 baht per liter to 2.77 baht per liter, resulting in a retail price of 29.23 baht per liter. These new Oil Fund rates will be effective from September 2, 2026.

During periods of national energy security volatility, the Oil and Gas Management Committee (OGM) encourages cooperation from all sectors of the public to understand the situation and collectively adjust energy consumption behaviors to be more mindful and use only what is necessary. The results not only reduce individual expenses but also lessen the burden on the country and strengthen the Oil and Gas Management Fund, ensuring it can sustainably support all citizens in the future.
