Fuel Shortage Crisis in Tak Province: Gas Stations Run Dry Amid Border Restrictions

Mae sot: In the border province of Tak, a fuel shortage has caused significant disruptions as residents rushed to gas stations, resulting in depleted supplies and mounting frustration. The situation has been particularly tense in the five border districts of Tak, where long lines of vehicles extended for kilometers along the Mae Sot-Tha Song Yang road.

According to Thai News Agency, the surge in demand began early in the morning, with large convoys of cars forming queues at every available gas station. At one station, the line of waiting vehicles stretched 2-3 kilometers, with some drivers having camped out overnight to secure their place. The scarcity of fuel has been further compounded by restrictions on refueling vehicles from Myanmar, as the Mae Sot district announced it would not provide fuel to these vehicles due to limited supplies.

As the day unfolded, the situation at the gas stations became increasingly chaotic. The number of people and vehicles vying for fuel continued to grow, leading to instances of line-cutting and subsequent disputes among drivers. To manage the escalating tensions, police and local officials were dispatched to gas stations to maintain order and ensure public safety.

In response to the crisis, all gas stations in the Mae Sot district displayed signs declaring the exhaustion of their fuel reserves, and many were forced to shut down temporarily. However, there is a glimmer of hope as reports suggest that fuel trucks are expected to deliver more supplies to the area later in the afternoon, potentially alleviating the dire situation.
