Bangkok: The Department of Climate Change Mitigation awarded the G-GREEN National Award to 357 businesses, recognizing their success in supporting Thailand's transition to a low-carbon economy and society.
According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Climate Change and Environment held a national G-Green award ceremony. Dr. Raveewan Phuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening ceremony and presented a total of 357 G-Green awards. These included 3 G Platinum awards, 34 G Plus awards, and 176 G Gold awards (excellent level), totaling 213 awards. Meanwhile, Dr. Pirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, presented 144 G-Green awards: 87 Silver (very good) and 57 Bronze (good) awards.
Dr. Raweewan Phuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, stated that the Ministry, through the Department of Climate Change and Environment, has implemented a project to promote environmentally friendly production, services, and consumption. This aims to raise awareness of the efficient and effective use of resources and energy, promote good environmental management coupled with waste and pollution management, support Thailand's transition to a low-carbon economy and society, and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The project targets businesses, offices, and national parks, utilizing an environmental certification process under the G-Green symbol, totaling six projects.
Dr. Raweewan further stated that the projects being implemented include: one, the Green Production promotion project; two, the Green Hotel promotion project; three, the Green Hotel Plus project; four, the Green National Park promotion project; five, the Green Office promotion project; and six, the Green Restaurant promotion project.
Dr. Pirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, added that by 2025, 357 establishments and offices have been certified and registered as environmentally friendly. This has resulted in businesses, hotels, restaurants, national parks, and offices being able to reduce costs and pollution, gain a better understanding of environmental management, and increase opportunities and channels for consumers to choose environmentally friendly products and services.
This national G-Green certification event aims to honor establishments, hotels, restaurants, national parks, and offices that have been evaluated and certified with the G-Green symbol for environmentally friendly production and services. It serves as a positive example and inspiration for others to further develop their own businesses and organizations, while also promoting environmentally friendly production, services, and consumption, and raising awareness of the G-Green symbol.
During this event, the Department of Climate Change and Environment held signing ceremonies for Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with three organizations: an MOU on Thai tourism standards and environmentally friendly service standards with the Department of Tourism; an MOU on sustainability and climate adaptation with the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB); and a memorandum of understanding on providing incentives to registered SMEs receiving government services for business operations that promote environmentally friendly production, services, and consumption with the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP).
