Gas Cylinder Explosion Causes Building Collapse in Karachi, Killing 13

Karachi: An explosion caused a building to collapse in Karachi, killing at least 13 people. Pakistani police said a powerful gas cylinder explosion today caused a residential building to collapse in the southern port city of Karachi, killing at least 13 people, including women and children.

According to Thai News Agency, police stated that the explosion was caused by a cooking gas cylinder on the first floor of a multi-story residential building in the Soldier Bazaar area, a densely populated residential community in the east of the city. Police further reported that among the deceased were seven children, the youngest being just two years old.

Rescue workers are currently working to assist and transport more than 12 injured people to hospitals. They also indicate that a number of victims may still be trapped under the rubble. Police are investigating the true cause of the explosion. This tragedy occurs just one month after a massive fire at a shopping mall in Karachi last month killed more than 70 people.
