Chachoengsao: A young man suffered severe burns after a gas explosion occurred in his home while he was steaming sticky rice on the gas stove.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident took place in a two-story townhouse where police from Saen Phudat Police Station, fire trucks from Saen Phudat Subdistrict Municipality, and paramedics from Ban Pho Hospital responded to the emergency. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Mr. Prasit Tankaew, was found with severe burns and was immediately given first aid by emergency personnel before being transported to the hospital. The explosion originated in the back kitchen area, causing significant damage to the extended back wall, roof, and various belongings. Firefighters acted swiftly to shut off the gas valve and disconnect the gas from the regulator, subsequently removing the gas cylinder to prevent further incidents.
Mr. Prasit explained that he had gone downstairs early to steam sticky rice and returned upstairs to take a shower. Upon returning to the kitchen to turn off the gas valve, he was met with flames and a loud explosion as he bent down to access the gas cylinder stored under the kitchen sink. His girlfriend, alarmed by the noise, came to his aid and contacted rescue services. Investigators suspect that a gas leak in the hose or an improperly installed pressure regulator, possibly related to a recent gas cylinder replacement, could have caused the explosion.
