Gas Tank Explosion Claims Life of 93-Year-Old Grandma in Udomsuk.

Bangkok: A tragic incident unfolded in the Udomsuk area when a 93-year-old grandmother, identified as Mrs. Kesorn, lost her life following a gas explosion in her kitchen. The elderly woman was heating food on her gas stove when the tank exploded, resulting in a fire that left her with fatal burn injuries.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Rakkiat Patumwan of the Suthisan Police Station responded to the emergency report of a fire at a townhouse located in Soi Udomsuk, Intersection 5, within Huai Khwang Subdistrict and District. The officer coordinated with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation’s fire engines, forensic officers, medical professionals from Ramathibodi Hospital, and rescue volunteers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation to assess the scene.

The incident occurred in a three-story townhouse, specifically in the kitchen situated at the back of the first floor. The explosion damaged both the gas stove and a 15-kilogram gas tank. Upon inspection, Mrs. Kesorn’s body was discover
ed with extensive burn marks, her clothing having caught fire during the incident. Investigators found food on the stove, indicating she was preparing a meal at the time of the explosion.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud blast and witnessing smoke emanating from the house. They promptly contacted police and emergency services while attempting to extinguish the flames with fire extinguishers. They also managed to turn off the gas supply and remove the gas tank. Neighbors notified Mrs. Kesorn’s relatives, who lived nearby, about the tragic event.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a gas leak, possibly at the line or nozzle, led to the explosion when Mrs. Kesorn attempted to ignite the stove. Forensic teams are conducting a thorough examination of the scene, and the police have sent her body to Ramathibodi Hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
