Gate Collapse Leaves Homeowner with Fractured Collarbone: Incident Highlights Safety Concerns

New york: A life-or-death moment unfolded when a 50 kg gate collapsed on a homeowner, leading to a fractured collarbone.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident involved a 66-year-old woman who was attempting to close her gate when it jammed. Despite her efforts to maneuver the gate, it came off its track and fell on her, resulting in a broken collarbone. The security camera footage showed her struggling with the nearly two-meter-high, iron gate with wooden cladding. Although injured, she managed to call for help, and neighbors quickly assisted in lifting the gate off her. Her family called an ambulance, and she was initially treated for a fractured left clavicle and an elbow injury.

Doctors allowed her to return home to recover, but the following morning, she experienced severe rib pain. Her family took her back to the doctor for further examination and X-rays. The family, who stated this was the first such incident, is now preparing to repair the door track system to prevent a recurrence.

Reporters visiting the site noted that the gate remained unrepaired, with initial assessments pointing to issues with the track system. The original track, which used smaller steel bars, had been replaced with larger ones. However, the integration was incomplete, leading to the gate wheels derailing when fully opened. Attempts to close the gate caused it to get stuck on the new bars, requiring excessive force and resulting in the gate losing balance.

The homeowner has since contacted a technician to address the track system issues and has advised others with sliding gates to seek repairs immediately if any jamming or derailing occurs, to prevent similar accidents.
